Percy Wood Golf and Country Retreat

A delightful parkland setting with undulating fairways. Tougher than it looks at first glance. Fringed by mature woodland with spectacular views of the Simonside hills, the course comprises an imaginative layout which will keep golfers on their toes. The opening hole, a par three of 172 yards, is fairly straightforward but it's followed by an excellent par four of 403 yards which will concentrate the mind before going on to play a couple of short-ish par fours, although there is water to carry just off the tee at the third, but it shouldn't really come in to play. The fifth at 204 yards off the yellow and 211 off the back is a par three. With the green guarded by a couple of sentinel trees and water at the back, it starts a run of holes which are varied and testing in many different ways. The trees on the right of the par five sixth will make you think, as will the pond short right of the green. A ditch on the driving line makes the next, a par four of 407 yards, interesting and is followed by the eighth at 450 yards. The ninth is a par five of 482 yards with out of bounds on the right plus plenty of trees which makes for a very attractive and dangerous hole. The tenth is a nice par three again with water behind the green and the eleventh, another par five is quite tough at 523 yards with a ditch and out of bounds on the left. The second shot has to carry the ditch as it crosses the fairway. The twelfth at 450 yards and stroke one is rated the most difficult hole on the course and rightly so but the thirteenth is not far behind with a tee shot needed to be straight and true between the trees. Then it's on to another short par three with a pond in front of the tee and the fifteenth requires another good tee shot, as do many of the holes at Swarland, before moving on to a pretty good finish with out of bounds left on sixteen, a 420 yard par four and then a 410 yard seventeenth. Finally, the eighteenth is a par five of 505 yards with views of the North Sea beyond. To complement the course we are updating and expanding our 14 bay driving range, where you can improve your swing.
